ABLI at global data protection conference in Tirana

The 41st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) was held in Tirana, Albania from 21 to 24 October 2019. Every year, independent regulators on privacy, data protection and freedom of information meet at this global forum to adopt high-level resolutions and recommendations addressed to governments and international organisations.

The theme of this year’s conference is “convergence and connectivity raising global data protection standards in the digital age”, which is a particularly apt topic for ABLI and Dr Clarisse Girot, ABLI’s senior fellow and Data Privacy Project lead.

Dr Girot was invited to share her observations during Q&A of opening session panel 1 titled “Convergence in data protection law: where are we converging? What progress are we making toward common standards?”, where representatives from regional data privacy regulators explored what convergence meant in practice and debated the value of both further developing common standards and working to make laws interoperable.
