“The ASEAN Economic Community continues to be a work in progress. A brilliant initiative by our Chief Justice via the Asian Business Law Institute last year harnesses thought leadership on convergence of laws. I would add that in order to look for convergence, one must understand divergence. Comparative law and conflict of laws would be critical subjects to master and learn not only by students but also legal practitioners. In my view, the way of the future will involve choice of law in major contracts being a carefully considered, informed decision.”
