It is with great sadness that ABLI learnt of the passing of Professor Guo Yujun in the wee hours on April 22, 2023, at the age of 59.
Professor Guo was, among others, a distinguished professor of private international law, art law, and cultural heritage law at Wuhan University International Law Institute in China, and a well-respected private international law expert on the global stage. For over three decades, she taught, mentored and inspired countless students who have expressed an outpouring of grief at this news.
Professor Guo published more than 100 academic articles and works in Chinese, English and Japanese with a wide range of domestic and international influence. ABLI has been privileged to have had the opportunity to work with her on our flagship judgments publications Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Asia (where Professor Guo was the author for country report for China) and Asian Principles for the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments (where She authored Principle 4 on Merits and Principle 5 on Reciprocity). Professor Guo was also instrumental in facilitating the translation of the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Asia from English into simplified Chinese as well as the publication and distribution of the Chinese translation in Mainland China.
The official eulogy for Professor Guo in Chinese can be read here.
ABLI offers its deepest condolences to Professor Guo’s family.
