ABLI is delighted to hold webinar Digital Asset Dynamics and Case Studies: Insights from China, Singapore and International Initiatives with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) on September 3, 2024.
With over 100 private practitioners, policymakers and academics joining online, Professor Louise Gullifer, Jiamin Leow, and Wenwen Zeng provided an overview of the UNIDROIT Principles on Digital Assets and Private Law, and discussed topics such as the definition of digital assets in Singapore and China, whether such assets are treated as property by the courts of those countries, and the creation of security interest over such assets. Professor Gullifer also gave a presentation on the UNIDROIT Principles for which she chaired the Drafting Group.
Attendees also posted interesting questions such as how judgments and arbitral awards involving cryptoassets can be enforced in China given the complicated landscape in the country where certain activities, such as financing, involving those assets are banned but the assets themselves are protected by law.
Professor Ignacio Tirado provided opening remarks to the webinar in his capacity as Secretary-General of UNIDROIT.
ABLI is heartened to see the warm reception to the webinar and encouraged by the very positive feedback received after the session. We thank all speakers and attendees for their active participation.
